specialized training for seniors

The Enhanced Road Assessment (ERA) is a specialized evaluation conducted by ICBC for RoadSafetyBC to assess a driver’s real-world skills in operating a motor vehicle safely. The ERA is essential to ensure that drivers can navigate the roads responsibly and confidently.

Target Audience:
The ERA is not age-specific and is not a replacement for the Driver’s Medical Fitness Report for drivers aged 80, 85, and every two years thereafter. It is designed for all drivers who need to periodically assess their driving abilities to ensure safe driving practices.

Test Overview and Outcome:
The ERA assessment takes about 90 minutes to complete and includes a pre-trip vehicle orientation, a 45-minute on-road drive, and a post-trip review. The assessment does not involve computer testing, and drivers cannot pass or fail the ERA. Instead, the evaluation tests a driver’s skills in real-world scenarios. The results of the ERA assessment, along with other information, are considered to make licensing decisions.
